Will hire fees go up?
The facilities delivered through the new building will be greatly superior to those available at the moment and therefore worth more. Despite this, existing users of the Community Centre and other Gamlingay community buildings will be charged what they can reasonably afford in the first place. Once their group/business has had a chance to develop or expand the rates will be gradually increased to be more in line with other comparable facilities.
Will the WI Hall be closed and sold to pay for the Community Eco Hub?
The Parish Council are making no decision regarding the WI Hall until the Eco Hub is delivered.
Will traffic to and from the Community Eco Hub increase?
There will be an increase in traffic during the build phase but activity will be restricted to the hours of 8am to 8pm. Once the Community Eco Hub is built there is likely to be some increase in traffic but it is intended to encourage people to walk or cycle, through the provision of bike and pram parking.
Will recycling still be available? - Extended recycling opportunities will be available but this will not include glass and so will not result in noise.
How will the Community Eco Hub generate power and heat?
Electricity will be generated through the fitting of Photovoltaics to the roof. These will generate electricity for the centre to use or will feed electricity in to the national grid and earn revenue to support the building.
Water and heat will be generated through a Ground Source Heat Pump system located under the playing fields and through roof mounted solar thermal heating system.
Will more than one group be able to use the Community Eco Hub at any one time?
The facility will be available for a number of different groups to use the Eco HUB at the same time. This will maximise its potential to earn money to support itself.
What hours will the Eco Hub be open for? - The Eco Hub will be open at least from 9 in the morning until 6 in the evening and probably longer.
How will you avoid vandalism and anti social behaviour?
The Eco Hub will be well lit and CCTV will be fitted to the outside. The windows will be made up of small panes of glass so that any breakages will be cheaper to replace. The building will be manned and busy which will make it self policing and as safe and secure as possible. The outside of the building will be faced with a very hard wearing material which is graffiti resistant.
